Brooklyn-Based Saxophonist Ayumi Ishito Together with Like Minded Musicians Presents ‘The Roboquarians, Vol. 1’, Her Brand New Vivid Avant-Punk Album
'The Roboquarians, Vol. 1' is a brand new recording under the name of Japanese born, Brooklyn-based Ayumi Ishito working together with like minded musicians: George Draguns, on guitar, who came up through the hardcore scene of the 80s (“the movement” as Mike Watt calls it) and the ultra-flexible Kevin Shea on drums. The album is made of many different elements that complete this specific puzzle of creative sound. You could call it Black Flag jazz. Ishito manipulates her tenor saxophone sound obtaining ultra vivid colors. When you add Draguns’ sound impact into Ishito’s palette, together with Shea's blasting approach, it becomes a feast for mind expansion.
A true connection between these players welcomes the listener into the unique improvisational music they craft. The band is always striving for new ingredients in their sound recipe. Played with spirit and a balanced light and darkness, The Roboquarians are striving for flavors, staying away from clichés and offering a fresh punk approach to the avant-garde scene.
Ishito has released many celebrated albums on the label, including ‘Spacemen, Vol. 1 and 2’. Her collaboration with iconic Daniel Carter ‘Open Question, Vol. 1 and 2’ has been described as music full of ‘inside, outside and some hard-to-define X factor holding it all together’. The album will be available digitally on March 29, 2024 and will be followed soon by a second volume.
