Budding Percussionist, Composer Stephen Davis Serves New Flavor of British Contemporary Group Sound in New Album with 577 Records

Rising percussionist and composer Stephen Davis is a newcomer to the 577 Records international community, but his arrival packs a punch of infectious inspiration and pure, unadulterated listening enjoyment.  In this masterpiece, he fuses his gifts with those of pianist Alexander Hawkins, bassist Nick Dunston, alto saxist Angelika Niescier, and tenor saxist Tom Challenger.  Each of the album’s eight compositions dances with listeners through a range of emotions and vibes, from playful flirtation to thought-provoking auditory art, wildly bold expressions of that feeling called freedom, some sultry seductions, and beyond.

“The music I wrote for this project was influenced by time spent in the forests of Wicklow in Ireland,” Mr. Davis explains.  “The old trees there and the feeling in the forest made me imagine a time before when human life was simpler.  I chose musicians who I knew could make the compositions really vibrate.  Some of the pieces are about ghosts, trees, mountains, whales, and even gods!”
